Tipu Sultan, also known as the Tiger of Mysore, was the ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore. One school hails him as a valiant warrior who fought for his honour and for his country; another describes him as a ruthless and bigoted ruler. Recent researches show that Tipu was "more sinned against than sinning".
Even Nana Phadnavis, a bitter opponent of Tipu, acknowledged his vital role. "Tipu is finished," he remarked, "Poona wll now be the next victim. Evil days are ahead. There seems to be no escape from destiny."
